All year groups from 7 to 11 took part in a special remembrance gathering, which provided an opportunity for quiet reflection and collective respect. Students who are members of the cadets, scouts and guides were invited to wear their uniforms as a sign of honour and solidarity.
In the lead-up to the event, students in Years 7, 8 and 9 created their own poppies during art lessons to show their support for the Royal British Legion and its vital work. Students designed a wide range of different poppies, including red to honour soldiers and their families, purple to remember the animals who served, black to recognise the contributions of black African and Afro-Caribbean communities and white to symbolise peace.
The individual poppies were first displayed in the school’s atrium and have since been crafted into a stunning poppy waterfall, serving as a powerful tribute to remembrance and reflection. Governors have also been invited to attend the ceremony to represent the academy’s wider community.
The Remembrance event brought together the whole Da Vinci Academy community, giving students and staff the opportunity to pause, reflect and express gratitude for those who have served and continue to serve today.
“Remembrance Day is a time for our school community to come together and reflect on the courage and sacrifices made by so many. I’m incredibly proud of our students for the thought, care and creativity they’ve shown in commemorating this important occasion. Their Poppy Waterfall is a beautiful and heartfelt reminder of the importance of remembrance, unity and peace.”
