Channel 4 representatives visited Da Vinci Academy to run the sessions, giving students the chance to learn directly from industry professionals.
All Year 9 students attended sessions led by Janina Monaghan from Channel 4, where they were able to discover the wide range of creative and technical roles that bring television to life. The focus was on roles ‘behind the camera’, showing students the breadth of roles that are vital in bringing television shows to the screen.
Students in Year 8 and a group of Year 9s then immersed themselves in ‘Have a Go’ sessions; practical workshops, designing, costing and pitching original TV show concepts, with the winning idea chosen by their peers.
Students explored how creativity and technology drive innovation at Channel 4, learned about the role of advertising in funding home-grown television, and gained first-hand insight into how the industry is evolving in the digital age. The workshops formed an exciting part of Da Vinci Academy’s careers programme, designed to spark students’ curiosity about future career paths and connect classroom learning with real-world opportunities across a range of industries.
“It was fantastic to see our students so engaged and enthusiastic throughout the workshops. They not only learned about the many creative and technical roles in television but also had the chance to put their ideas into practice by developing and pitching their own TV show concepts. Opportunities like this give students hands-on experience, build their confidence and provide a real understanding of what a career in the creative industries can involve”
“It was amazing to see how much goes into making a TV show. Getting to develop and pitch our own TV show made the whole experience feel real and showed me how fun and varied a career in media could be”.
“We were thrilled to welcome Channel 4 to Da Vinci Academy. These workshops give our students a unique chance to explore the creative industries, discover the wide variety of roles that make television possible and see how their own ideas could one day come to life on screen. At Da Vinci Academy, we want our students to feel ambitious and excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for them, and experiences like this are invaluable in providing them with the inspiration to aspire for their futures.
