An excited group of students from Da Vinci Academy jetted off to Barcelona for an action-packed football and cultural tour.

The trip, organised as part of the school’s commitment to developing student potential both on and off the field, included competitive fixtures, world-class training and a wealth of sightseeing and adventure.

Upon arrival, the students wasted no time diving into the local culture, starting with a thrilling surfing session. From there, the itinerary was packed with incredible opportunities, including a professional coaching session at the prestigious RCD Espanyol facilities – where students trained just metres from the women’s first team.

The group played a series of competitive matches in sunny conditions, showcasing determination and team spirit. Between matches, there was plenty of time for rest and recovery – including a dip in the hotel pool – and taking in Barcelona’s vibrant sights.

Students explored iconic landmarks such as the Basilica de la Sagrada Familia, enjoyed immersive experiences at the FC Barcelona museum and had a fun-filled day at PortAventura –  where some students braved a ride on Europe’s tallest and fastest rollercoaster.

The trip ended on a high note with a visit to the Olympic Park and stadium, which was buzzing in preparation for the evening’s UEFA Champions League Quarter Final.

Stephen Schmidt, PE Curriculum Lead at Da Vinci Academy, said:

“This tour was a fantastic opportunity for our students to challenge themselves in new environments, learn from elite-level coaching, and build bonds as a team. I’m incredibly proud of their effort, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the trip.”

Kyra, one of the students who took part in the trip, summed up the experience:

“I’ve never done anything like this before – training next to professionals, seeing the Sagrada Familia and even going on Europe’s fastest rollercoaster! It was honestly amazing from start to finish.”

Jayne Scattergood, Headteacher at Da Vinci Academy, commented:

“At Da Vinci Academy, we recognise how powerful experiences like this can be in shaping a young person’s development. Trips that combine cultural exploration with competitive sport not only inspire our students, but also help nurture their individual passions and talents. This tour gave our students the chance to grow in confidence, experience a new culture and deepen their love for sport – all of which are key to the values we promote as a school.”
