Assessment and Reporting

Assessment at Da Vinci Academy

At Da Vinci Academy, we believe that effective assessment is key to every pupil’s success. It helps us understand how well pupils are learning and ensures that teachers, leaders, students, and families can work together to support progress.

Our assessment and tracking systems provide clear, accurate and purposeful information. This enables teachers to plan lessons effectively, identify where extra support is needed, and deliver high-quality teaching. For us, assessment is not just about collecting data, it’s about using that information to make a real difference in the classroom and across the academy.

Through a range of assessment methods, we can spot gaps or misconceptions in pupils’ knowledge and understanding. These are addressed through targeted feedback and carefully planned teaching, helping pupils build secure knowledge over time. We focus on giving the right feedback to the right pupils at the right time, using strategies that are both impactful and manageable for teachers.

Our goal is simple: to ensure every pupil receives the support they need to thrive.

Target Setting

Academic target setting is essential to ensure pupils make strong progress across all key stages and to support the academy in meeting its overall attainment and progress goals.

Wherever possible, targets are set using Key Stage 2 outcomes. Where this information is not available, NGRT (New Group Reading Test) scores are used to support accurate and appropriate target setting.

Targets are subsequently shared with all stakeholders.

Academic Reporting

Pupils receive a minimum of three academic reports each year. In Key Stage 4. Additional reports are provided following mock examinations.

Reports are issued to pupils in hard copy and are also stored electronically by the academy for future reference. Historical reports can be requested by students and families by contacting the Data Team at [email protected]

Each report includes the following information:

Grade Description
Current Grade The grade a student has achieved based on completed assessments to date, including any relevant coursework.
Predicted Grade The grade we expect the student to achieve by the end of the course, based on current progress.
Mock Grade The grade achieved in formal mock examinations.
ATL Grade Attitude to Learning (see below for more info)

Attitude to Learning (ATL)
